My SM is nuts. When we try to ask him something or talk to him about something, He demands us to address him as ‘Sir’ or he won’t speak to us. This can’t be normal and I refuse to participate in this mess.

Yes, he is older. I don't know about his culture or where he is from, but I don't have to be extra respectful to someone just because he was born before I was.
I get respecting your supervisors and all that but this is just too much.
You don't even have to respect them, just don't cause any problems and they should leave you alone. Yet, this man was brave enough to demand some bs like this.
