reduced hours problem

Things got a bit sideways lately it’s so hard to get hours now, people are quitting, we are short on people but we still do not get hours. Many of us have been hired as full time hourly, but we are getting under 30 hours all the time, some people get as low as 8 hours. Not sure if this is some kind of management technique to get rid of people but that will happen anyway as people have bills to pay and 8 hours aint gonna cut it. The game will continue and the higher-ups will keep squeezing those of us who landed full-time gigs during ‘covid’, making us take the hit or bounce. Had a chat with my store manager about it, and all I was getting was the classic shrug-off and ‘do not worry about it’ what a douche but I knew it already. It’s extremely frustrating especially after sticking it out through the pandemic facing all that risk and stress only to be told by the trillion dollar company out there that they "can't afford" to give the hours we were promised when we signed up to be full time. Lies. The businesses in my region are doing well maybe it’s time to pack up and leave, I think this should not be tolerated.

the people who make big decisions know it's hard for workers when they don't get enough hours or money to buy what they need, like food or a place to LIVE. they do this on purpose and don't care if it's tough for the workers. they don't worry if someone can't pay for their house or car. if someone loses their car because they're not getting enough work and can't come to the job, the bosses don't care. they just let that person go and find someone else who will work for even less money and not ask for much. this makes the company save money and earn more, which makes the big bosses happy because they can buy more fancy things like extra cars or big a*s mansions. it's good for them but not for the a*sociates. this is how things are at a lot of companies in america.

Try to talk to your manager and explain your situation again - be polite and tell her or him that you'd appreciate more hours - be flexible and try to help if they need it, they tend to respond good. I agree wiht you on everything you said.

Apply for unemployment benefits ASAP. Seriously. It'll depend on your state, you might be eligible for these benefits even if you've only experienced a reduction in work hours. I'm baffled by the company's decision to significantly lower salaries for many employees with little to no prior notice. Aren't they aware that a lot of us depend on each paycheck to make ends meet? Repossessions and evictions follow, so sad and sick.

here in cali you can apply for unemployment if they drop you under 32 - you can also get gov healthcare if that's an issue
