I recently got a job at Walmart, and my orientation is set for tomorrow. I'm beginning with a wage of $14 an hour in the position of Morning Stocking 1 TA. Could anyone explain how pay increases are determined here? Additionally, is it possible for me to take on extra shifts through the app to increase my hours?
honestly, thinking you'll make decent money here is kinda delusional - i'd just spend some time, grab the experience, and bail. there's tons of places that'll pay way better. but hey, that's just my take. we've got millions at this company and i bet a bunch would disagree.
But have you seen the buzz about the overall bumping up of Wages at WMT? The news making rounds is the jump to an average $18 per hour from $14. Sounds fairly good but it's not as simple as it sounds since that "average" bump to $18 isn't going to mean a solid $4 raise across the board for everyone. It's all over the map, depending on things like how your store's doing, what your job there is, and even where you're located. So, that "average" thing? So, yeah, it surely doesn't mean everyone's getting the same slice of the pie.
Most associates are looking at something more like a 2% increase. Yikes. If you're earning $14/hour now, you're probably gonna see around 28 cents more per hour. And for those in hourly management roles, your raise could swing between 0-5%, all depending on your performance reviews. With over 1.5 million folks in the company (i think that's the US number now), they're saying the average wage is going up by about 50 cents per hour.
Wanna know but I am still unclear what's the real deal behind these wage changes. That flashy headline of an $18 average raise is definitely eye-catching, but the nitty-gritty is not simple... Each of us should talk to our managers for the info on this. Something tells me that the company will not be transparent but we should be asking questions anyway.
Sorry about dumping all of this, I know it's more questions than answers but that's my thinking right now...
