I've started ignoring customers and my life became instantly better

Not all customers of course, but if it's not in my department, I just walk away. I pretend I didn't hear them and let somebody else deal with it. Call me a ba^^^^d, but I don't care. It's working for me and I don't intend to stop.

You need to be careful with that attitude. I understand that there are a lot of rude customers that are too demanding and, of course, you shouldn’t waste too much time with them, especially if their question is something concerning another department. However, if you ignore them too much the complaints could start piling up. While that may not be a problem to you right away, you need to keep two things in mind: The manager is just waiting for some complaints that he can use against you later on and the rudest customers are the ones most likely to complain to the manager.

The fact that you are asking that question tells me that you couldn’t do it. It’s a matter of work discipline or work ethic if you will. I’m built the same way. If I don’t occupy myself with tasks during the workday at the end of the day I have the feeling that I’ve wasted my time on nothing. Also, if we have a slow day time passes much slower. My advice for you is not to pay too much attention to the lazy ones (or the ones that think they are smarter than everybody else). They have their way and you have yours.
