So this just happened today, and I’m still shaking my head over it. I was walking past the entrance, doing my usual rounds, when a lady customer stopped me out of nowhere and started going off about how rude I was for not saying hello to her. She was upset because I didn’t acknowledge her when she walked in. Look, I get that people like to feel welcomed, but at the end of the day, my job isn’t to stop and greet every person who walks into the store. I’m there to do my tasks, help out with things that need fixing, restock shelves, etc. I’m not supposed to be some kind of social greeter for every single person that passes by. I’m all for being polite, but I’m not going to waste time stopping everything I’m doing to chat with every customer unless they need help. And to be honest, not every person wants to be greeted, so I don’t see the point in forcing a hello on someone who might not care.
