Walmart managers need to make up their mind about PPTO

I was getting ready for work yesterday when my roommate told me she was feeling so bad she was worried that she might fall down on the way to the bathroom. She’s not somebody who asks for help easily so I decided to just call in and be there for her. I had enough PPTO to think this wouldn’t be an issue. I was wrong. I called the TL to let him know what happened, and he got mad. He said it wasn’t a good day to not come to work today because we had a lot of things to do. He said that if I kept doing this it wouldn’t be a good look for me and apparently it would affect my future. Then why do we have a right to collect and spend PPTO in the first place?? Some people can’t just take no for an answer.

Call ethics and talk to them about this nonsense. He can’t legally do this.

Is he new around here? How dare he actually threaten you with your legal right??

someone used their ppto to leave early, and people were saying not to feel guilty, which, honestly, is so true. like, if you earned it, why shouldn’t you be able to use it, right?

but then there’s always someone saying, “why waste it?” or “you’ll regret it later when you need it.” if you earned it, you should be able to use it without getting judged by anyone. it’s literally your right as an associate.

the bigger issue is how some team leads act like it's a huge deal when someone uses their ppto. it’s their job to handle staffing, not ours. if a tl can’t deal with it, that’s on them, not on us. no one should feel guilty for taking time off they earned.

and don’t even get me started on how inconsistent the rules are. some people can clock out early without any trouble, but if others tried that, they’d get coached. why are the rules different depending on who you are or where you work? that's really unfair.

anyway, the point is, associates should be able to use their ppto whenever they want without feeling bad about it. we work hard, so we deserve to take a break when we need it. #respectyourppto
