Understaffing is taking a huge toll on Walmart

I can tell you firsthand that the understaffing situation has become a HUGE problem for Walmart. I wouldn’t really know or even care why they made the decisions that led to this if this didn’t affect me. I’ve been working at Walmart for three years and the difference in workload I get now versus the workload I was getting three years ago is enormous. Stores are experiencing empty shelves, overwhelmed staff, and stretched customer service on a daily basis. They have been making some adjustments regarding the issues though. Their latest push to try and fix the situation is raising the minimum hourly rate, which surely is a step in the right direction. It definitely shows they’re aware of the issue, but I’m not sure if it’s enough. The workload still remains really big per associate, and even with more money, it’s tough to keep up without having enough workers. Sure, better pay might attract more people, but unless working conditions improve, we’ll keep facing the same challenges on and on.

I really hope that they realize that throwing money at the problem isn't the only solution. We need more support and better working conditions if they want to keep good associates around.

It's not just about the workload anymore because it's affecting morale and customer satisfaction too. Don't get me wrong, I really do appreciate the pay raise, but it feels like just an inadequate and temporary solution to a much bigger problem. They need to address the reasons why people are leaving and figure out how to make this a place worth staying at.

The main problem is Corporate and management. Down size the the workers. Walmart is not the same for years. For instance the front end scanning the workers has been cut causing more theft because we dont have enough workers there to oversee theft.People see there is no one there and walk out with merchandise. They pull workers off and put them on the register. It takes 4 people to run the scanning area. There is time we have 2 workers.I never seen a place like this that is unorganized.

If payroll goes up they'll be even more understaffed as they try to save a buck. The place us run by complete morons.
