There's a hardworking associate who never made excuses for anything I've asked of him. But lately, whenever there's heavy unloading, he always uses PTO and leaves early. He's crucial to my team, and I don’t want to lose him, but I feel like he's spending his last days at Walmart. He’s losing motivation day by day. What should I do about this situation?
Meet with him and ask if he's okay, if there's something going on that he needs help with or if he's having issues with the job. I find that getting to know your associate helps them feel comfortable about communicating issues with work or home that may be affecting their job performance.

It could be that he feels that many of his coworkers are slacking and letting him do most if the work. He should talk to you about how he feels. It would be in your best interest to talk to him about his recent behavior. It might save him from quitting!
