How well does it go for people when they suddenly want to change their availability? Does it always get accepted and implemented or only if it’s available?
It usually gets worked through, they really try to find a solution in your favor.
so far based on what I’ve been seeing most of them get approved

The only right answer is it depends. It depends whether the new availability you choose is overcrowded and if a new person can be fitted in. Maybe you get lucky that someone else wants your schedule so you get interchanged. Lots of possibilities and factors that influence the final decision.
