Walmart vs. New York: The Billion-Dollar Safety Upgrade Showdown New York mandates panic buttons in retail, Walmart pushes back, citing sky-high costs and questionable efficacy https://vibes.okdiario.com/vibus/money/walmart-vs-new-york-the-billion-dollar-safety-upgrade-showdown/
This is really disgusting but I can’t say I’m surprised. Safety has always been too expensive for Walmart. It’s situations like this where you can clearly see the extent of the corporate greed and the culture of treating the employees like a commodity. If someone gets ki^led or seriously injured in the line of work, well, they’ll just hire someone else. What’s most insulting is that the expense of installing a panic button is no bigger than the price of a smartphone.
Systems with panic buttons are far more cheaper than alarm systems in stores or fulfillment centers. So, what does that tell you about the company? They will do everything to protect the goods, but it’s OK for an employee to get ki^led or injured at work.
