I'm currently receiving long-term disability benefits from Walmart. Lincoln has advised me to apply for Social Security disability, assuring me that doing so will not impact my Walmart benefits. Could anyone share how long one can remain on long-term disability? Has anyone experienced a similar situation?
I am not surprised that Lincoln is pushing you in this direction as all what they care about is saving money and not paying you anything. It' so sad that nobody wants to help the employee and all of them are just interested in money. Ultimately, we are just numbers on a spreadsheet somewhere and we are all disposable. As we age and need more assistance we become even less interesting to all of them and we become disposable. Sorry about the rant, I had a rough day and I hope you figure this out...

It's a standard procedure for individuals who have been receiving long-term disability benefits for an extended period and might continue to do so indefinitely. If you choose not to apply, there's a chance your disability payments could be halted. Once Social Security approves your application, your disability payments from Walmart will be reduced by the amount you receive from Social Security. It's not all that dark though as at some point you will qualify for Medicare and Social Security will provide annual cost-of-living adjustments that will not be deducted from your disability payments.
