Hello, I am writing because I am really worried about my job but I just can't work right now. My kid is really sick and I have had to file the paperwork for a 7 day LOA. I have filed it last Thursday and Friday was my last day at Walmart, but I never got removed from the schedule or a response for the paperwork, even though everything was agreed upon to.
I’ve tried calling, but they just keep saying it’s being reviewed. I’m worried they’ll mark me as a no-show or something even though I filed everything properly.
Unfortunately, this happens more than it should. Make sure you keep records of everything—emails, dates, and any conversations you’ve had. If they do try to mark you as a no-show, you’ll have proof to dispute it.
Good point. I have the confirmation that I submitted the paperwork, but nothing beyond that. I’ll try to follow up in writing to have more documentation.
I worked at Walmart for years, and HR processing can be painfully slow. If you don’t hear back soon, consider going to the store in person to talk to a manager. That way, they can’t ignore you as easily.
I hadn’t thought about going in person. I might try that if I don’t hear back soon. It’s frustrating when you’re already dealing with a stressful situation at home.
I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Taking care of your kid is the priority, and the system should support that. If HR continues to drag their feet, maybe contact Walmart’s corporate office. They usually have a dedicated line for LOA issues.
Thank you for saying that. I really hope it doesn’t come to that, but it’s good to know I have that option if I need it.
From an HR perspective, they should have at least acknowledged the receipt of your paperwork by now. If they didn’t, it might mean the paperwork got misplaced. Double-check to see if you can resubmit electronically or escalate it to your store’s HR lead.
That’s a good idea. I’ll call HR again tomorrow and ask about resubmitting if they still don’t have answers for me.
