Job description

Is there any point in having a job description at Walmart? I keep getting assigned to other sections and doing things that I am not supposed to be doing (and which I had to learn on the fly). Why don't they just put in their job description "be prepared to do everything and anything" and be done with it?

Sadly, they've already put that into your job description. Can't remember the exact wording, but it goes something like 'and any other tasks the mgmt sees fit'.

I don’t think that there’s any way to fight this. I worked here for a long time and in a couple of different stores and it’s always been that way. I would even go that far to say that this way of dealing with day to day issues has become part of the culture. What really “fascinates” me is that there is always an explanation for it. Either we are understaffed, or too many people are on vacation, or sick leave, or there are too many new employees that can’t be handed certain tasks…the list goes on and on. It’s far from fair, but the only way is not to make too much of it and get on with the work.

Correct. Do what you can and go home. They will always be unhappy with you, but that’s not your fault. Even if you had four hands they would still have some remark about your performance. So the only thing you can do is not worry about it and do as much as you can.
