It's always just a few people who carry the entire store on their backs
I worked at three different locations over the years and every time it's been the same thing. You have a handful of people who do the majority of work while the others do the bare minimum and spend the rest of the time slacking off. Are some of you not ashamed? Is it really okay with you to have other people do your jobs for you? Do you have no pride?
I can tell you one thing. You can never expect those people to feel any shame, any regret or to have any sort of moral compass. They look at this situation from a totally different angle. They selfishly think that they outsmarted you, that they won and you lost. There will always be people like that, but the bigger problem here are the leads that let this happen. You should always mention that you are doing more work and in that way put some pressure on the leads to keep an eye on lazy ones.
Thinking someone's continence will kick in and that things will somehow magically change is definitely the wrong approach. You should always mention to them that they should pick up their part of the work like you pick up yours. You should also speak about this to the lead. Things may not change even then but at least they will know what you think.
