I don't get the point

What's the point of not being able to buy a discounted item just because you're the one who tagged it? I can ask anybody else in the store to buy as many as I want for me and give them to me later on. Nobody's going to check on stuff like that. So what's the point of the rule when it's so easily circumvented? To be annoying for the sake of being annoying?
