God bless America

I want to mention how good the teenage work system is actually built. There is ALWAYS a huge supply of inexperienced teenagers looking for jobs. Walmart is always happy to accept them because the jobs they offer don’t necessarily require experience and are not really that demanding so they don’t have to pay big money, like they have to with adults. So, when a teenager starts working there, he stays for a few months, maybe even a year, and gains significant work experience that will help him find a new and better job, so he leaves. When he leaves there are a thousand other teenagers waiting in line to do the same, leaving Walmart with a constant supply of cheap workforce, making it a situation where nobody loses. I love this.

I get what you’re saying, but isn’t it kind of exploitative? Teenagers are often taken advantage of because they don’t know any better and just need money.

Sure, it's good experience, but the low pay is problematic. We shouldn’t justify companies paying so little just because they can get away with it.

I started at Walmart as a teenager and it was actually a great experience. I learned a lot about work ethic and customer service. It set me up for better opportunities later.

This sounds good on paper, but what about job security? Teens are disposable to these companies. There’s no incentive for Walmart to improve working conditions or pay

The constant turnover can’t be great for Walmart's overall productivity though. Training new employees all the time must be a hassle.
