Is anybody else tired of having to confront customers about keeping their (supposedly service) dogs in carts and explaining to them how that's a health hazard just to have them get your boss, who then sides with them? I swear, I'm this close to letting customers do whatever they want. It's not worth the aggravation.
You're right, it is a health hazard. Maybe that's why all states have laws that forbid it. Some customers could even sue us for law violations.
I do not see this as a problem. Most people have dogs. If you have a dog, I think you understand this situation.
i have several friends with service animals, and they always run into problems with unruly pets in stores. it's really bad! i think the us needs to revise its esa language to make it clearer. esa does not equal service animal, not by a long s^ot. but somehow, people have misinterpreted the esa language to justify taking pets to places they definitely shouldn't be (like grocery stores).
Under the ADA, people cant ask for proof of a service dog's function.
We can only ask if it's a service dog and what task it performs. I've had this situation at work 1000 times.
When I ask, "Is this a service dog?" and the answer is "Yes" that's all I can do.
We can only take further action if the animal shows visible aggression!!!
Most people, even then, hesitate to act due to fear of lawsuits, and my mgmt has instructed us not to get involved unless the animal actually bites someone.

As far as I'm concerned, dogs shouldn't be allowed in the stores, period. Service or not.
