Bereavement rules

My mother in law passed and I need to take Bereavement time but the management is not cool about this and they are making it hard - what options I have and what aer the rules or actual policy? I am PT and on MET team so the store rules dont apply to me.

Talk to your People Lead, you should be getting 3 days. Since it's a "Mother in Law" you should be OK - the policy states: “whether by blood, marriage or adoption” and it's by "Marriage" in our case and father/mother is covered.

I do not think the person posting the original post is covered as she or he is part time

I am the OP - they told me I only got 4 hours bereavement for 3 days. My mother in law lived 6 hours away from me and my little 12 hours has yet to be approved.

well it would be 3 shifts, if you miss 3 4 hour shifts that is all waht you'd be getting and if you are scheduled for 5 hours you get only 5 hours and it's not blanket 24 hrs

Yep, grandparents are covered under the policy, just find the policy and it's listed there, i think you can use OneWalmart

You get three days of paid leave for bereavement if it's for your grandparents, but any more days than that won't be paid. Some stores might ask for an obituary or some proof of the death because there have been issues with people misusing bereavement days. Just so you know, this can be different from store to store.

as everyone else said: you get 3 days. since you are part time and merchadising, you'll need to see with your mgmt what local rules apply to you
