Sink or swim

I feel bad for the new associates. Training was bad before but it seems to be even worse now. They're just thrown into the deep end of the pool without a care for whether they'll sink or swim. No wonder so many decide to leave within a week or two here.

Can someone fill me in? I'm looking for a job right after I finish high school. I was thinking about working at my local store but now all this talk about lack of training has me worried.

If I were you I'd apply regardless of what others are saying about the training. The pay is decent, and there are always enough folks around you willing to help you get around.

I presume you feel bad for them because you consider them swimming rather than sinking a good thing. Let me ask you, what do you think is better long-term? Swimming, as you put it, and continuing to work at a company that provides a lousy training, an even lousier pay and a cut-throat atmosphere at work, or sinking and being provided with an opportunity to seek a job elsewhere?

It definitely su^ks that the new associates are brought in and left on their own, with very little guidance, but if one has the will to stay he will find a way to cope with that. If you don’t know something ask a more experienced coworker for help, if you make a mistake learn from it, in some time you’ll be good. Worked for me every time.
