Playing favorites at work

Despite working hard and trying to advance my career it feels like I'm constantly hitting a brick wall. Our store managers are playing favorites and demoralizing the sh*t out of me. There are only a few employees who get any sort of opportunities for advancement or recognition and these "chosen few" are always the ones getting the best shifts and promotions. Meanwhile, the rest of us are doing the dirty work and getting none of the credit. It's so lousy to see the biggest slackers getting ahead while we are stuck in the same position no matter how hard we work. I've tried talking to management about this, but they always have some excuse. Right now, it feels like I'm stuck in a dead-end job and the only way out is a new job somewhere else.
