I like working in this place and I want to work for Walmart for the next few years of my life. As you can imagine, I don't want to work for Walmart as a stocker for these years. I want to get a promotion and I want to do that as quickly as possible. So realistically speaking, how are walmart store associates promoted? Spill all the tea pls.
They are not going to give you a raise, you will apply for the higher positions that are available and there are some things you can do to put yourself in a better position than other candidates for the job. Some believe already working at Walmart as an associate is a disadvantage but I disagree. If you are a good performer on the job, that changes everything. So what you need to do is you need to keep your head down and work. Work relentlessly and don't complain about it. Try to have a good relationship with managers even if they are not yours. Try to be on a daily communication level with the store manager. This helps you to build a network and it gives you a chance of getting a reference from these people. If you want to get promoted you also need to get comfortable with the idea of working in a different store than your current one because as you can imagine, there are not going to be available management positions in your store all the time. What you do is you search for higher positions in your area or your desired area and just chase them. Keeping a clean record at Walmart is also helpful, so try not to get coached : ) Most people might call me a kiss a^s but I'm just giving you a realistic insight of what it's really like since you asked. Good luck.
Let me also add something to that comment, it also depends on the store that you're in. For example, at my store it's really hard to get close with the managers and have a good relationship with them. They already have their favorites and they already made promises to them. So favoritism at Walmart exists and only way to escape from it is to change stores if you are in a store like that.
How do these people choose their favorites?
Who?
The managers fool
Well I mean it can vary
For example their favorites might be their long time friend, a family member, a community member, or maybe they share the same nationality if they are not American. I know it's a dangerous topic and I don't want to make accusations without proof but, I've seen it happen before. Also, a^s kissers are strong candidates for being a favorite.
The first thing you need to do is to get very good at a^s kissing. Then everything will sort itself out.
